Education Education Opportunities for Honors Choirs Singers
Music/Piano Classes For Little Ones
Later This Summer,
taught by “Sister Margaretta”!!
Jane Haynie (Sister Margaretta in our summer musical) is offering a summer piano camp for very young children (ages 4-6) called Music for Little Mozarts. For more information, click the little bear to see the handout!
Singing in one of the Honors Choirs is the best way to become a better vocal
musician, BUT there are many things that a motivated singer can
do to enhance that experience and his/her skills:
- Sing in your school and/or church choir.
- Play an instrument.
- Take private vocal and/or instrumental lessons.
- Join the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester ($10 yearly fee) so that you can participate in Discovering Music with Honors Choirs. Siri Strommen Campbell, music instructor for Honors Choirs, teaches these introductory music classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 287-2300 for more information.
- Take advantage of the internet. Here are three free music theory sites that we recommend:
http://www.musictheory.net
http://library.thinkquest.org/15413/theory/theory.htm
http://www.teoria.com/tutorials/reading.index.htm - Use the Honors Choirs lab computer. We have two music education software programs, Auralia (an ear-training program) and Musition (a music theory program). These are available to interested Chorale and Concert Choir singers who will need to go through a short orientation in order to be able to use the computer independently. Singers should always call ahead to be sure that the computer room is available.
